About The Campaign

“Engaging Young Men Using Social Media for the Prevention of Violence against Women” is an international youth led campaign that CYC is hosting in India to facilitate the leadership that young people can offer to address Gender Based Violence (GBV).

The basic premise is to engage young people, especially men, using social media to prevent GBV. In order to achieve the above objectives, this campaign will be anchored by young people reaching out to other young people using emerging modes of online communication such as video blogging, facebook and twitter.

Campaign Plan

We see this campaign as one led by a core group of diverse young people chosen from Delhi colleges and communities. We will work with these young people to facilitate perspective building on gender based violence and train them in filmmaking & social media usage. The campaign will be then strategized and executed by the core group.
The young leaders will reach out to over 30,000 fellow youth and enhance their understanding of issues relating to gender based violence. This will happen at two levels; college campus & online platforms. Through a set of concerted activities across a range of social media platforms (such as Video blogging, Facebook and Twitter), the core group will reach out to peers on online spaces. A key component of the campaign would be the video blog where the core group will contribute 60-80 short films on gender based violence over a sustained period of time. At the same time, the core group would lead and anchor small initiatives to directly reach out to young people in their college campus and communities.
The campaign will have three distinct phases as expressed in the image.

We are grateful to have the facilitation and advisory support of well known film maker and gender activist Rahul Roy as key partner in this endeavour.
We are also currently developing partnerships with several likeminded organizations such as Jagori, Pravah, Manzil, FAT and resource people such as Pramada Menon, Satish Kumar Singh and others
This campaign is supported by UNDP, UNFPA, UNV and UNIFEM.
